چکیده
A 15-year-old boy presented with a moderate pectus excavatum (Figure 1). The preoperative X-rays are shown (Figures 2,3). He complained about cosmetics and did not have any physiological limitations. He plays badminton without symptoms and claims that he has the same level of endurance as his peers. Because of clinical suspicions concerning Marfan syndrome, he had an echocardiography, which was normal.

Minimally invasive bar repair for 'redo' correction of pectus excavatum.
BACKGROUND/PURPOSE A small percentage of patients who have undergone traditional, "Ravitch-type" pectus excavatum repair present with unsatisfactory results and require a second procedure for correction. Reoperative open surgery for pectus excavatum has been associated with extensive dissection and substantial blood loss. The minimally invasive (MIS) bar repair for the correction of pectus exca...
متن کاملThe Nuss procedure for pectus excavatum: evolution of techniques and early results on 322 patients.
BACKGROUND The Nuss procedure is a minimally invasive technique using a retrosternal bar to repair pectus excavatum. Although its technical simplicity and cosmetic advantages are remarkable, early applications have been limited to children with symmetrical pectus excavatum. We report a large single-institution experience including technical modifications to correct asymmetric configurations and...

The Nuss technique includes using temporary metallic bars without costochondral resection to correct the chest wall deformity. Modified MIRPE can be learned easily and pe...
متن کاملUse of a subxiphoid incision for pectus bar placement in the repair of pectus excavatum.
BACKGROUND Since the first description of the Nuss repair for pectus excavatum, many technical variations have been described. Over the past 10 years, we have used a subxiphoid incision to allow finger guidance to protect the mediastinum which obviates the need for thoracoscopy. METHODS A retrospective review was conducted on all our patients who have undergone pectus excavatum repair from De...
